How to Transfer Belief to Others
Hope is a powerful drug
3 Insights for Your Leadership Journey
Hope is a powerful drug.
If you believe a brighter future exists tomorrow than exists today, you persevere, overcome hardships, and work relentlessly to encounter your dreams. In many ways, the outcome isn’t nearly as important as the journey. Perfectionism and getting caught up in all the reasons something can’t be achieved get in the way of what you become while pursuing a better future.
Part of your responsibility and mine is to remember the wise words of Napoleon, “A leader’s job is to define reality and deliver hope.” If you care about instilling hope and transferring belief, here are three principles to remember:
I. Believing in yourself is fantastic, but helping someone else believe in themselves is better.
What it means:
People who have self-confidence are magnetic. They exude a positive energy that’s contagious. Their conviction helps fuel accomplishments.
However, one of the great joys in life is seeing someone else break through a barrier they didn’t think was possible. The best leaders understand they can’t manufacture a breakthrough for someone else but they can encourage, challenge, and coach others to improve the odds of other people achieving optimal results.
II. All belief is transferred through a source.
What it means:
What does Ted Lasso, Deion Sanders, and Dabo Swinney have in common? They are relentless about transferring belief to others. They understand that all belief is transferred through a source. To be a source of belief for those around you, turn your attention to a central idea from my keynote talk, “Bound By Belief.”
What you consume provides thoughts
Thoughts become beliefs
Beliefs dictate behavior
Behaviors become habits
Habits become your results
III. Walk by faith, not by sight
What it means:
Regardless of your religious beliefs, one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is from 2 Cor 5-7. It says, “We walk by faith, not by sight.”
There is nothing easy about believing in something you can’t see. Dr. Myles Munroe used to say, “Your eyes are the enemy of a great vision, because they will only tell you what you can see.” So much of leadership at home or at work is about believing that something you cannot currently see is possible. Then painting a picture for others of what will happen because of current efforts.
Will the future state be exactly like your vision? Probably not. It very well could be better.

All Big Change Starts Small (Video)
All big change starts small. Most people know they need to change, but the change looks so big it paralyzes action.
A world-class coach who helps people on the show Hoarders uses something called the 5-Minute Rule. Which states that all you have to do is commit to a change action for 5 minutes, and at the end of the 5 minutes, you can quit. Something amazing happens: the hoarders don't want to quit at the end of 5 minutes because they have finally started.
If you are ready to unleash a change in yourself or with others, try shortening the shift with the 5-minute rule.
