Just because your team or organization can do one thing exceptionally well doesn’t mean you can do everything at the same level.

You can do almost anything.  You have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do nearly anything you put your mind and commitment towards. However, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. More often than not, more is less, and less is more.

What it means:

Almost 10 years ago, at a Bible study, my mentor said that being a great leader takes an unrelenting will and a long obedience in the same direction.

I wrote it down immediately, and the part that made such a big impact on me was “a long obedience in the same direction.” This is the opposite of how most people think and act.

Focus is what separates action from distraction. It’s the habit of habits. The truth is both your mind and your team craves order.

However, focusing and prioritizing are more difficult than ever. The sheer amount of distractions available to you is more significant than any time in history.  You have conditioned your brain to desire a constant stream of dopamine. When dopamine isn’t released quickly, it’s easy to look elsewhere to find it.
