How to Build Leaders at Every Level
Leadership can't be replaced
All around us, business dynamics are shifting fast. One thing remains constant, though:
Great leadership can’t be replaced.
Despite it being overshadowed at times, we’re seeing a quiet resurgence of prioritizing leadership in organizations.
Let’s get after it,
I. One World-Class Leader Doesn’t Make a World-Class Organization.
What it means:
Unfortunately, most organizations believe they have leaders at every level because they are designed hierarchically. But, just because you have managers doesn’t mean you have leaders.
It’s tempting to lean on a single “hero” leader. But truly world-class organizations don’t just have a superstar CEO. Instead, they have an army of leaders at every level that separates them from the competition.
The first world-class organization that comes to mind for me is Chick-fil-A. Sure, the chicken sandwich is to die for, and the waffle fries melt in your mouth, but what scales those great products is leadership.
II. Average Companies Hope Employees Grow and Develop on Their Own
What it means:
Budget constraints, time, and fear of “training someone to leave” are common excuses. But as the saying goes:
CFO: “What if we spend money on developing our people and they leave?”
CEO: “What if we don’t, and they stay?”
Organizations that don’t invest in their leaders eventually face lackluster teams, high turnover, and a culture of disengagement. Growth does take time and effort, yet the alternative is far costlier.
III. Growth Isn’t a Goal, It’s a Byproduct of Action
What it means:
Most people treat leadership development as a box to check activity, but it’s an ongoing practice because leadership is a journey and not a destination.
Actual change happens with a combination of desire + plan + action.

How to Leverage Accountability as a Leader (Video)

Leaders get what they emphasize, and what they tolerate, they encourage.
It is the obligation of leaders to account for their actions and the actions of their people.
Instead of thinking about accountability as something you do to someone, think of it as something you do with someone. The best leaders understand accountability as a collaborative process that continuously creates more positive behaviors.
