I. Having the right people in essential roles makes the difference between thriving and surviving.
Pivotal people shape success.
This means the right people in the right roles can elevate your team to new heights. Conversely, the wrong people in the wrong roles can limit your team’s success. As a leader, your task isn’t just oversight; it’s constantly evaluating the percentage of your essential roles that are filled by the right people.
Unfortunately, most managers underestimate the importance and frequency of evaluating the talent on their team.
II. Every leader cares about the talent on their team, few do the hard work to fix it.
What it means:
Knowing you’re supposed to do something is much different than doing it. I know I am supposed to work out today, but doing it is different.
When it comes to talent, it’s easier to complain about someone who isn't right than to make the personnel changes proactively.
III. The best leaders have an abundance mindset around talent.
The world is massive and filled with a wide variety of talent. Unfortunately, many managers have a scarcity mindset around talent. They settle for average to below-average people because it’s a sure thing.
Be the opposite. The next person could change everything, so stop settling.
